What We Do:
The Mission of Step Up Ventura is to provide therapeutic services and access to childcare and preschool for children ages zero to five who are affected by homelessness or at risk of homelessness.
We help infants, toddlers, and young children develop secure attachments and overcome the traumas they have faced.
Our program supports nurturing, calming, and appropriately stimulating activities throughout the day by training early childhood educators, caregivers, and mental health workers to meet the unique needs of children affected by homelessness.
Step Up Ventura requires parent involvement. Parents learn to understand and care for their children with interventions specifically targeted to early childhood brain development and healthy parent-child attachments.
The Need for Step Up:
There are about 6,000 children affected by homelessness aged zero to five in Ventura County, children living doubled up in temporary living situations, transitional housing, shelters, uninhabitable places, and on the street.
How You Can Help:
We have public events.
We have several committees that could use assistance.
We also have a Board of Directors. Right now we would especially love to involve more people with business, legal, and medical expertise, but everyone’s talents and enthusiasm will be of great use.
Donations have made it possible for us to open and provide supportive services at childcare and preschool programs

Continuing to Serve Despite COVID-19
With grave concern for our Step Up Ventura families, we've adjusted our operations and services. We are acutely aware of the hardships our families are facing as parents care for their children, unable to work. We are happy to be on-site again at one of the preschools we serve.
